How to Get Red Wine Stain Out of Carpet?

Whether you’ve had a party at your home or just a casual spill by a guest, a red wine stain on a white plush carpet can be intimidating! But the good part is, you can get rid of it with prompt actions.

In this blog, we have discussed some easy ways to remove wine stains from your carpet and make it look spotless and fresh again.

Steps to get wine stains out of the carpet

1. Blot the stain

Use a clean cloth or paper towel to blot the wine stain as soon as possible. If the stain is dry, dampen it with a few sprinkles of water and blot as much stain as you can until it no longer transfers to the cloth.

2. Try Club Soda

Take a bottle of club soda and pour some onto the wine stain. Once it is saturated, start blotting it with a cloth until the stain comes out.

Make sure you do not rub the stain and just blot it. You might need to repeat this if the stain doesn’t come out completely.

3. Baking soda paste

Another easy way to take wine stains out of your carpet is baking soda. Make a thick paste of baking soda with a few drops of water. After blotting the stain with a paper towel, coat this mixture over the stain and allow it to sit until it fully dries.

Once dried, you will see the stain lifted and you can vacuum the residue later.

4. Vinegar-dishwashing solution

If the club soda does not seem to work, you can try a DIY vinegar solution. Mix equal amounts (1/2 tsp) of water and vinegar and dishwashing soap into 2 cups of water.

Dampen a cloth into it and blot the stain gently to remove it all.

5. Hydrogen peroxide

If you think the stain is stubborn or an old, dried one, a stronger alternative could be hydrogen peroxide.

Mix hydrogen peroxide and dishwashing liquid in a 2:1 ratio and spray this mixture on the wine stain. Blot the spot with a cloth until all the stain is gone.

Make sure you test this mixture on a hidden carpet spot before use to avoid discoloration.

6. Blot with clean water

After the stain is gone, give it a wipe with a clean water-dipped cloth to avoid leaving soapy residue. Once you have ensured the stain spot is clean and dry, you can vacuum it up to lift the fibers to keep your carpet looking fresh.
